HAPPY NEW YEAR! Just as our seasons move in a cycle, so do our packaging materials - and there is a lot going on behind the scenes to make it successful! Join us in looking "beyond the bin" to gain insight into the circular supply chain, and discuss how the packaging decisions we make contribute to the quantity and quality of recovered materials in the Twin Cities - and beyond - for a sustainable future.
TOUR Waste Management's Twin Cities Material Recovery Facility (MRF), their 2nd largest in North America, serving 5 states. We will see the people and equipment that separate, sort, and prepare materials for reprocessing and sale to manufacturers. We will go out to the tip floor, where truckloads of single-stream recyclables are delivered for processing, and follow as materials traverse the 1.5 miles of conveyor through 200+ pieces of equipment. We will learn about the recovery operations' effectiveness and hear about problem materials to avoid in the WM Education Center.
