What is a dieline?

A dieline is used for producing packaging.  Packaging could not be manufactured without the dieline.

A dieline is the template of the package.  It is a full scale line drawing or an outline of the package laying flat.  It shows where the cuts and folds are on the package.  (See Example 1.)  It also shows where the graphics are placed on the package.  (See Example 2.)

The dieline is provided as an electronic file in multiple formats (ai, eps, pdf, etc.).  The dieline files we provide are compatible with Adobe Illustrator.  Adobe Illustrator is a software program that graphic designers use for creating their artwork.

Before you go into production with your dieline, make sure to have a prototype sample made of your package (per your dieline).  This will avoid any costly mistakes such as graphic orientation, sizing, color, etc.

Example 1 - A dieline that shows the cut & score lines of the package.

Example 2 - A dieline that also shows the graphic placement on the package.
